This week on Crop To Cuisine, we are talking about the Pueblo Chile. Pueblo is a town on Colorado’s Front range, about 45 min south of Colorado Springs. The town is fairly small, home to a little more than 100,000 people. But over one weekend every September, this small town almost doubles in size. Almost 100,000 visitors from all over the country, some from as far away as Hawaii and Alaska, come to celebrate the annual Pueblo Chili and Frijoles Festival. We speak with Carl Musso of Musso Farms in Pueblo. His family has been farming this unique variety of chile for several generations, and he will tell us alittle bit about his relationship with it. We are also joined by Nick Mauro of Torpedo Farms. Nick’s family raises hogs in the region, and has recently introduced a new product to the market which utilizes the unique characterisitics of the pueblo chile. And last but not least, Michael Bartolo is the CSU Extension Vegetable Crop Specialist for the Arkansas Valley region and the Manager of the Arkansas Valley Research Center. Not only has he worked with many Chile Farmers in the region, but his family is largely responsible for the resurgence of the original Pueblo Chile. He'll join us to talk about just that. Only on Crop To Cuisine.
